We designed an InterVideo disc label using the "Florabunda" theme, which showed pretty green and pink flowers in the preview screen but was disappointingly drab when it actually printed in blacks and grays. H-P says it has plans to add color LightScribe labeling in the future. We didn't like seeing previews of these 10 theme designs in various colors because LightScribe isn't capable of printing in anything except gray scale.

Three templates (content, full and title) and 10 themes (including Birthday, Love, Veggies and Water) are available for selection. You can also add your digital photos to the disc, and the size and placement of text and images can be manually adjusted in the preview screen. Options in the "Label Tasks" section include "auto-fill from disc," which reads an inserted CD and creates a "Track 1, Track 2, etc." list which you can use to properly enter song data. Two menus - "Label Tasks" and "Template" - hug the left of your PC screen while a large preview image of the disc takes up rest of the screen. We created a label on InterVideo, and found its interface user-friendly. We found both rather simple to use, though Sonic has an advantage because it works directly with iTunes.

To create your label, you can use one of two software programs that come installed on your LightScribe-enabled H-P computer: InterVideo DiscLabel or Sonic Express Labeler. LaCie also sells add-on LightScribe drives for about $180 that will work with Mac (special Mac software is included) and Windows computers to create labeled discs. LightScribe-capable drives can be added to all H-P Pavilion and Media Center desktop models on the site - even the low-price $400 computer - as well as one Compaq Presario model.Īn add-on internal LightScribe drive can be bought on the H-P Web site for about $130, for use with Windows 2000 or XP computers. After that, it will cost $45 to configure a new computer with a LightScribe drive.
